With a sprinkle of teamwork and a dash of supervision, you'll be shaping a fun and safe space for students to thrive. Join us – where every day is a new and thrilling adventure in education!

Who on earth are we?

Y Whittlesea is a not-for-profit that happens to be part of the oldest youth organisation in the world and oldest social enterprise where all profits go back into our communities. The Y School is a fresh initiative, crafting a safe and inclusive learning environment for young people aged 15-20 who may have faced disengagement from education. We're all about providing support, services, and programs to empower individuals to achieve their goals and lead dignified lives. Be a part of something bigger!

What do we hope you'll bring?

  • Legal right to live and work in Australia.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Education
  • VIT Registration
  • Police Check (International if you have lived outside Australia in the last 5 years)
  • Current First Aid, CPR, Anaphylaxis and Asthma quals
  • Qualifications and/or experience in youth or welfare work highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the Child Safe Standards
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment (TAE) - desirable but not essential.
  • Demonstrated understanding of diverse educational needs and innovative teaching strategies.
  • Empathy and strong social awareness, and stellar communication skills.
  • Oh, and here’s another one. We trust you. We also care about you. In return, you’ll bring an innate work ethic, respect and care for others, and consistent integrity to all that you do.

Why should I want to be a Y Community School Teacher?

Real purpose, passion and impact: at Y Whittlesea you will embark on a rewarding journey where you can make a positive impact in the lives of vulnerable and disengaged young people. If you love the joy of building relationships with young people, celebrating all their successes and seeing them grow and thrive with your support then this job is for you. All this whilst also knowing that you are part of something bigger: Disability services, Community Schools and much more where all surpluses go back into our communities. Enjoy a flexible workplace, a free gym membership on site, ongoing professional development opportunities, and competitive rates including charitable salary packaging benefits to increase your take home pay. Positions which attract a leadership allowance in Teaching and Learning or Careers and Pathways are available.

Why might the Y not be right for me?

We rarely do ridiculous hours, but we do work very hard, every day.

You'll need to be highly organised, self-motivated and used to working as a team.

You’ll need to be willing and able to plan for and structure learning for students as individuals and work flexibly with a range of activities and levels of learnings happening in a group at any time.

We value feedback highly, and will expect you to speak up, ask questions and share knowledge and we will do the same.

Ok, I'm in. How do I apply and stand out?
